Overseas, you’ll need various forms of payment! The more diverse and flexible you can be with this the better. Most places particularly in cheaper destinations, only accept cash, so always carry cash! And have your standard debit card on hand. 

However, you want to do everything you can to avoid paying any extra fees when taking cash out and paying for things. I’ve found the best way to do this is to use Wise Card. Wise lets you set up bank accounts in different currencies, so you can take cash out with no additional transaction fees!

You may still find some ATMs charge you extra, but Wise is a great way to eliminate any unnecessary chargers. Wise is also super handy when exchanging money and if you need to pay someone from a country. 

PayPal is also handy as you can pay someone using just their email address. On multiple occasions throughout my 12-month South America trip, I had no cash on me and needed to pay for my room. With no card machine in sight, PayPal was an easy way to make a payment right there and then!
